I read in the papers that Carmelo Anthony and his fiancee, La La (from MTV vjay fame) are expecting their first child together.
Let me just say that these two have been engaged for two years already. Carmelo Anthony is 22 years old and La La is currently 27. They started dating when he was 20.
In my opinion, this marriage will probably not take place. Melo has had her locked down for the past two years. Recently, she was reported to not be seen even wearing the ring....then lo and behold, she turns up pregnant.
I recall when he had first come to the NBA and he was on the radio (Wendy.Williams) and she asked him what kind of girls' he liked....He emphatically said "Light skinned girls with phat ASSets". Well, we all know that for a baller, those chicks are in abundance. Immediately after hearing that radio program, I heard he proposed to La La.
Now La La used to be on the radio in Atlanta. She is no dummy. She is older and has a fairly good gig on MTV despite the fact that she is getting older and will soon need to set herself up for another role. She thought she had parlayed that MTV fame into the NBA wife position. But it seems that Melo has been dragging his feet.
Two years later, and still no wedding. Now I am speculating, but if you can go two years plus without getting pregnant.....how come all of a sudden, you end up knocked up?
Well, I hear you Miss La La. You are now officially set for life. You are a smart girl. If he does marry you, you will have to deal with some rocky terrain as you move forward. The NBA wife is not a role I would relish. Groupies, trips on the road away from home. But at least there's always shopping! Have fun on Rodeo Drive.

I saw that mess too!!! LaLa knows exactly what she is doing. She knows she is lacking in the talent area and soon to be 30 she will be quickly moving out of MTV rotation...she nolonger fits the demographic for their audience. Thus, this pregnancy is a way to solidify her financial situation. When MTV falls out from under her she will always have baby Melo to fall back on. Sad but true. As for the marriage...BEEEP!!! Wrong! Ain't gone happen, and like you said...if she figures out a way to get him down the aisle her life will be full of "extras" cause them groupies gone be on it and his young behind ain't gone be turnin them away. Oh well...I guess she sees that as a better option then being a washed up video dj or whateva dah hell she is supposed to be
And I have two sons and I would be damned of either of them ever became a millionaire at 20 years old if I would have them getting married to some older chick at the ripe age of 22.
She has got to know that he is young, rich and now starting to enjoy his life. She is too old for this mess. But like you said RD, she is trying to solidify her financial situation.
You're right. Sadly, some women can't find the wherewithall to handle their own business. So, they trap a mofo for life by getting prego. The thing is, where is the self-respect? If you're messing with a rich 22 year old, and he hasn't settled down with you yet, what makes you think you're "the one"? Financially, it makes sense for her. I just can't see putting money before self-respect.
Kobe got married too young and you see what happened to his behind.
A man needs time to sow his wild oats. Get all of that out of his system (if he can, shouts out to Zed!). Live a little and enjoy being wealthy and having the world at his feet.
People marry for different reasons. Not always traditional. I ain't hatin' on LaLa ...although I think she is funny looking. However, Melo is not gonna marry her...if he was he would have by now when they first got together...because at that point his nose was wide open. LaLa let too much time go by with out clossing the deal...now he's had way too much other ass thrown his way to really take her seriously.
Now that I think about it...he probably will get married to her...but not for a while...maybe after their second or third child. 'Cause La ain't goin' no where as long as he keeps letting her reap the benefits.
Exactly Blah. When she first got with his little young behind and he got his first taste of some older stuff....he was putting rocks on fingers :)

I remember her briefly from my days at Howard cuz we were in the same school. One of my boys used to date her, so I saw her waaaay before those MTV days. She's cool peeps, even though she looks a lil' bit funny. For some reason I thought that her and 'Melo had gotten married already. Oh well, she's cashing that check in regardless.

For some reason I just keep thinking "What happened to names like Pearl, Rose and Helen. My grandmother was named Pearl and I keep thinking that in a few decades. It'll be granny La La and Big Mama Nay-Nay.
I dont think she ever EXPECTED to marry dude. Name the last 20 yr old that got married not even one who wasn't famous. Dude was famous before he even hit the NBA. La La is simply riding the situation for all its worth and adjusting on the fly. If I was a betting man, their relationship been rocky for a minute prolly not even discussing marriage anymore so she figured why not...
If you a millionaire, got no outside issues and really love a chick....you aint waitin' 2 yrs.

No one is thinking about the kids. Yeah, they might have some money, but they also have jacked up parents that the money can't save them from.
