Stepping onto the soapbox for a minute....
While most of the innanets are buzzing about a certain radio station DJ calling a certain female basketball team "Nappy Headed Hoes", I am going to instead challenge my brown people to do better.
It's so easy to demand that this tacky and crass individual be fired or reprimanded...but then we will go out and buy records, watch videos and speak to each other using the same words.
We have to stop with this..."we can call each other derogatory sh*t but you can't" mentality. What kind of crap is that? Rationalizing demoralizing behavior is TRIFLING people.
C'mon Brown People, we can do Better.

I agree. We should do better. A hot beat is not a good enough reason to be degraded.
Amen 1969! I am cathcing myself when I hear songs. More and more I cringe at what is on the TV and radio. The Internet is even worse.
I tell my daughter some of that crap on the radio is not worth listening to at all.
I was having this conversation with quite a few people today..We're out there jumping all over this fool Imus, but refusing to take ownership of what came out of his mouth. Shit I've heard black folk call each other worse things...
I agree with you 120 % Sistren.Change must come from within..No more tearing each other down with derogatory comments or images!
Time to start a movement
You know how I feel.
Imus is wrong. Uncle Al had him up on his show. We're calling for a firing but why doesn't anyone have any music artists up on the show questioning them?!?!?
And don't give me that crap about it being accepted in our community.....(I've heard that point of view argued before)
Im with you.. it wouldn't have come out his mouth had he not "thought" it was acceptable behavior by us already!!!!
had this conversation many a times.. its exactly why certain music isn't played in my home.. I don't buy cd's from certain artists.. yeah I might bounce my head to it but you ain't getting my support.. not even if it was FREE.. I've finally gotten my daughter to understand that too
Steve Harvey talked about this on his show this morning and so did Michael Baisden.. what happened to the songs that uplift us?
I'm glad I am not the only one who shares this opinion. Sadly, we all know that if a rapper was to use the line "nappy-headed hoes" in his next single, it would probably go gold. You are so right, we need to stop blaming others and start blaming ourselves.
I so agree with you!! Yeah Imus was wrong...but so are all these rappers...I mean its ok for it to be in a song, but when the media says it...its wrong?? We must check ourselves...its wrong all the way around!!

See...I knew my brown folks weren't all crazy!
I was reading CreoleinDC's blog and she had a great point....if Jay Z had said "nappy headed ho's" would we even be having this debate?
I so agree with you. Black people. We have issues.
