How did I get here?

I am currently in a work dilemma. I inquired about a raise and a title increase within my Department. I did a presentation to my two bosses regarding why I felt I was ready for the promotion. (It's between me and another candidate). That was two weeks ago. The following week, someone from another Department came and offered me a better job, Director title and more money.

The dilemma is that I love my job right now. Having more money to do this would be great. The new title would have made me happy.

The new position means more visibility. Bigger title. Now more involved in Strategy and Planning as opposed to selling. No more clients. No more numbers hanging over my head. Maybe $20,000 more in salary and I go from suits everyday to business casual.
More flexibility. Ability to work from home. However, I will no longer be in front of the customer. No more business trips to cool locations. More number crunching.

As I put everything down on paper, there is no way I am not going to post for it. In addition, I am their first choice.

So on Friday, I need to go to my current bosses and say....thanks but no thanks. I am going after the 2nd job.

I don't have a problem doing it....business is business. I have to do what's going to make me more marketable. But it still makes my head hurt. It's been a crazy couple of days.

I know it sounds cliche but PRAY ON IT!!! Your moving up in the world but this isn't the last stop...just the next stop on your journey in preparing you for wherever you are going.

If you take the Director job can you hire me...LOL!! I'll move to Philly :-)

You'll be the bomb no matter what you decide. Success is already yours...

RD..Thanks mama. I have been praying for the last two days. I really feel like God is trying to send me some signs. Instead of them just getting back to me, they have been hemming and hawing about telling me if I have the job or not.

Then during the wait, the Regional Leader walks into my office, shuts the door and tells me they are interested in me for the Director position.

Last night, the VP of Revenue Management invites me to dinner to talk.

All of this is seeming like God's way of moving me in that direction. I am not going to turn my back on this opportunity but I am scared. Change does that to a person. *sigh* Keep praying for me.

Brilld...Thanks for the nice words. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

Sounds like a great oppurtunity. A difference a day makes, huh?
I hope you recieve whatever is your hearts desire. You'll shine in either position.

What is your instinct telling you. I find it interesting that this is actually the inverse of what is normally expected for higher profile jobs, meaning, that 20K is a life altering dollar amount. But more importantly, (and it is more importantly because all money ain't good money), it allows you the flexibility of telecommuting, and start and end times.

Unto whom much is given, much is required, yes, but it sounds like, THIS particular job, is more of a benefit to you (and your family)from a physical, and geographic standpoint

Rock the house, gurl. Congratulations.

Oh, and by the way, the higher up you get, the more you are groomed to be asked to take a job, versus applying for it.

It's a testament to your (obvious) good work ethic.

BZ...it is a GOOD headache and I do feel blessed but the whole "two opportunities at once" was a little overwhelming.

Honey-Libra...thanks for visiting. Come back soon. I plan on checking you out in a minute.

P...GIRL...I have never been approached for a position in this way. I feel like I have somewhat "arrived" and am on a new playing field. I must say that getting ahead is all about playing the game in Corporate America. I pride myself on always being professional and cultivating relationships. The Regional that approached me did so because I have ALWAYS been a great team player whenever our paths crossed. She respects how I handle myself with her team, customers, etc.

As she put it...I carry myself with class but I don't take any sh*t. LOL....she doesn't know that I act that way because I am a BLACK WOMAN. :)

What is before you belongs to you...claim it!!

I agree with RD - pray. Everything happens for a reason. If your current boss can't match or make a better offer go with the new position. Girl go and get paid - no holds bar.

This is what they call "a nice problem to have". Don't worry about the money because its definitely not about that. Take your time and you'll be pointed in the right direction. Not to sound like a broken record, but P.U.S.H.
