There's Nowhere to Hide.........

This weekend I did something I haven't done in a long time. Absolutely nothing.
One of my best friends called and invited me to a pool party. Since the 1969 men had plans for the day....I was free to go all by myself.

I arrived at the pool party and promptly snatched up a lounger next to the pool. I proceeded to make myself a cocktail, whipped out my favorite book "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and chilled out. Four hours of nothing. Sun and water. For me, that is all it takes to leave me feeling rejuvenated.

So this week, I have a renenewed sense of spirit. As a mother, I now take the smallest things for granted. Had I taken my boys to a pool party, I would have spent the entire time on edge. Making sure they were safe, making sure they ate, watching them, playing with them, answering questions, bonding with the other parents.

It was really nice to lay in the sun and do nothing except get up to take a dip in the pool. Simple pleasures. Peace and quiet. Rest and relaxation.

I needed that.

Let the week begin.

Nothing...one of my favorite things to do. I find that it's quite underrated.

Amadeo....exactly!

Zeddie...it was pretty amazing. The whole party was going on, people milling in and out, and me...sitting on a lounger with my nose buried in a book, soaking up the sun and sipping on a margarita. LOL

Philly...if we could get paid doing nothing, we'd all be happier.

BK....That is exactly what you need.

I love it!

So glad you had the chance to do nothing. It can be the best feeling.

And, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of my fav authors! Have you read Love in the Time of Cholera?

This is why we know we are related. Alls I need is sun and water and I'm good. The life I want is one of leisure...one where I can lay back and enjoy everything the earth has to offer without rushing or worrying about the affairs of others. This is why the last day of my birthday this year in South Beach, after all my 38 guests have gone home...I'm staying 2 more days ALONE. Just me, the sun, sand, and ocean...a time for rejuvenation!

Great post!

Being able to be still is important. A margarita doesn't hurt either.

You are not alone in that it is very difficult to be near water with younguns. I was that way this entire weekend. On edge. And the thing about it is when I enter the water with them they vie for my solitary attention which you know is impossible. Alas, I choose to participate via sideline, sweat bullets and think about all the money spent in vain on Safe Start swim lessons at the Y' because those Jokers still can't swim a lick. And have the nerve to be afraid for me to take them to the deep. Hell, I can swim. I'm glad you got in touch with the woman, you know, the triplet to the wife and mother. ~wink~

We all need a weekend like that, but when we have committments involving other people (especially children) we take things like personal time for granted.
