Confessions of a Nerd

I have known that I am a Nerd for a long time. Growing up, I would rather read a book than go outside to play. I would spend hours reading my encyclopedia's (this was before internet people...remember, I am old!)and fill my head with random facts.

We would watch Jeopardy at dinner and I would know most of the answers (unless the category was Opera or some other craziness). In 6th grade, I came in 4th in the Daily N.ews NYC Spelling Bee.

My high school was highly competetive. You had to pass an entrance exam and score in the top five percent to get in. I made it. It was at this school where I found my fellow nerds. We were nerds but still cool. I had a haven to express my nerdiness.

I was a sports geek. I loved the Giants and the Mets (still do). I knew stats, ERA's, yards gained. To this day, I probably know more about football than most men and have won more football pools than I can remember.

I read comic books. I am an X-men fanatic. Wolverine is my favorite hero cause he kicks azz.

I love horror movies and will watch them late at night since Mr. 1969 HATES them. LOL

I love sudoku, I love GAMES magazine, I love puzzles.

My favorite tv shows are LOST and HEROES. I TIVO them when I am out of town.

In short, I am a nerd. My friend Jen calls me the "CHIC GEEK".

Since you all have been reading this blog so faithfully, I figured you should know what you're dealing with.

These are my confessions....

I knew I liked you for a reason! I'm a Jeopardy ho. My family hates watching it with me. I made NHS in high school. I wasn't into watching sports, but I started for the best field hockey team in the state - multiple years in a row. websudoku.com is saved on my favorites. I am a documentary freak, and THC, TLC and Discovery are saved on my favorite channels list.

So yeah, I'm soooooooo with you!

girrrl... you KNOW I know allll about the encyclopedia's.....we have so much in common! LOL

I was a nerd who was shy and didn't want too much attention drawn to me. I am now pretty putgoing but have my shy moments :-)

I used to get OUT on purpose in spellign bees because I would get scared of being in front of all theose people looking at me! LOL (but I secretly knew ALL the words). To this day, Zed and I are probably the ones in our group of frineds who get asked the most "what does that mean?" or "how do you spell that?". I loved words and my mother ALLLLLLLLLLLLWAYS (seems like from BIRTH) made me "look it up" and "sound it out(to look it up)" when I wanted to know what a word was or meant. My child shallbe NO different. Language is the passport to EVERY.THING. If you SOUND like you know what you are talking there is a BETTER chance that you will get into ANYTHING than if you have some skills, but sound like you don't know what the heck to say!

I also watched Jeaopardy and conside myself the "purveyor of useless knowledge" LOL

I too went to a school where you had to take an entrance exam to get into it, then (because our school had specific curriculums that you chose) the curriculum that I chose ALSO had a test and you hadd to be in the top 10% percent to get into it...I got in and remained in).

I had honors & AP classes throughout high school, but I became a bit more "social" so I dind't feel as nerdish since my friends were like me. :-)

Mr.Discosgruuv ALSO HATES horror movies so I OFTEN watch them alone! :( LOL

And I love ALL of the X-men, Spiderman, Action, sci-fi and fantasy movies!(than God Mr. Discosgruuv likes these too!) LOL

And I think we are completely normal! Thank ya verrry much! :-)

Nerds are cool to be around. Nerds know alot of stuff. LOL

Eventhough I went all through highschool with the smarties and then into an engineering program, I never really thought any of us were nerds. Just people who like math, and get really excited about an Algebra problem, HA!

Nerds unite. I still rush home to watch jeopardy. I was on the academic team in college. I was on the chess team in high school. I remember the World Book Encyclopedia (and know exactly where mine are right now). I also finished 4th in the spelling bee when I was in 3rd grade.

Let's not even talk sports. I kept a scorecard for every game of the 86 World Series (I was only 8).

I collected comic books (trying to sell them now) and was a fan of the X-Men and the New Warriors.

I'm with Mr. 1969 when it comes to horror movies though.

I do all the suduko's and crossword puzzles in the papers

We had the navy blue encyclopedias! LOL. My mom still has them in her basement!

Yeah, Tech did have the cool nerds! BS & Stuyvesant. Not so much.

AND I know baseball better than I know any other sport! I was a Mets fan in 86! But I decided I liked the Yankees uniform colors better! LOL

Chic Geek is hilarious. I love it!
